New Look

I’ve spent some time when I should have been doing proper work updating the blog and finally putting a new look in.

If anyone has any ideas for a better WordPress theme then let me know.

Slow posting

I’ve got an exam that I’ve not done enough study for so the posts will be less frequent until the Monday after next.

I’ll still be watching Spanish cement ships, though.

House move pain

As some of you know I’m moving from Rectory Road to Belstead Avenue soon (I’ll give out the address when I’m in the house).  However BT in their enthusiasm have jumped the gun which means I’m effectively without a landline until then.

Normal service will resume and emails will be answered then.

I’ve had someone complain about not getting through to my home number, so sorry about that.

Phew – one pratfall avoided

I’ve got another Tory leaflet hitting the streets, and I checked through it more than twice – making a number of changes.  I finally signed it off and got it approved to go to the printers.

So I copy some of this on to my blog.  Then to my horror I saw a misspelling.  And not just any misspelling, but a misspelling of Wherstead Road – the largest road in the ward.  And not just in the text but in a big headlines, and in capitals.

Luckily a piece of impromptu town planning (or I should say another attempt) was avoided when it turns out that the editor of the leaflet had taken a short break.

For my next trick I’ll misspell Ipswich or Suffolk on the front page.

Storing audio clips

Does anyone know a good place to store audio clips.  I’ve got a couple of good clips from local radio that I’d like to share but can’t afford to blast my bandwidth.

It has a name – Hyperlocal blogging

Apparently sites like this are “hyperlocal” and the wave of the future, the phenomena has been written about in the Guardian and even has at least one blog dedicated to it.

And you, too can be part of the phenomena by becoming a street reporter.

Pratfalls

One of my abiding faults is that I type too fast, and my brain sometimes doesn’t have time to catch up.  Spell checks are, I find, a wonderful invention and my grammar usually looks after itself.  One thing that doesn’t stop is how I make up places so thanks to Will from Formerly Ipswich for pointing out my impromptu town planning with Maidenhall Road (Maidenhall Approach) and Station Road (Station Street).

The last had no excuse as it is literally down the (Rectory) road from me.

Spammed

I am being currently comment-spammed (people are trying to fill up my comments with irrelevant advertising) which is part of the problem of being a blog, I suppose.  You the reader won’t see any of this as moderation is on for new commentors.

However what’s really puzzling is that these comment spammers are in cyrrilic script.  Why are Russians so keen on selling to Bridge ward?

Web problems

Something’s gone wrong with the blog and it’s not letting people on to sub pages.  I’m looking into this and will hopefully have normal service resumed soon.

Update: It’s all sorted now.  It looks like adding on redirects are not a good thing.

Getting RSS

If you want to put this site on RSS then you can go to the following link:

http://www.bridgeward.org.uk/wp-rss2.php

This will mean that you can get constant updates when they happen rather than checking back periodically.
