They won’t tell you this – upcoming council meetings

With the current Labour structure in Ipswich there is very little chance for influencing decisions unless you are within whispering range of the leadership. However you can, and should, protest.

There are two meetings coming up which could be quite important to this part of the town. The first is on the 10th January which is the Council Executive at a 6PM start at Grafton House on Grafton Way. They should be discussing their plans to put voluntary groups out of business.

There is also a meeting of the South West Area Committee – Labour’s attempt to neuter local involvement (as if they weren’t neutered enough). This will be meeting at 12th January at the work unfriendly time 5.30 at Grafton House. Apologies for the work unfriendly time but they are holding all four committee meetings in two evenings, to get the unpleasant business of local representation over with as soon as possible.

On Saturday 26th November there will be a police surgery at Chantry Library on Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich between 10am-12pm. Local councillors will also be present (so it can’t be Bridge). Area Forum: 29th November

There will be a public meeting on Tuesday 29th November at Bridge Ward Social Club in Austin Street at 11am. Ipswich Police’s Safter Neightbourhood Teams and Ipswich Borough Council hold regular Area Forum meetings, which are attended by the police, county and district councillors, as well as many other partners. These are open to the public so please come along and raise any issues you may have about the area to the relevant agency.

St. Mark’s autumn Bazaar

It seems that most of the Catholics I know in Bridge go to the nearer St. Pancras, but our parish is actually St. Mark’s on Hawthorn Drive. And St Mark’s parish autumn Bazaar will take place on Saturday 12th November at St Mark‟s Church and Hall, starting at 10am and finishing at 1pm.

They need items for the stalls and tombola. These include cakes, Jams, Bric-a-Brac, Plants,Books, CDs, DVDs, Toys, Puzzles, Games. Items for the stalls may be left at St Mark‟s church. If you would like items collected or if you would like to help for a few hours, please contact Mrs Anne Smitheram (01206 323886).

No used clothing. Also, due to pointless European Union rules they cannot accept any electrical items.

David Campbell Bannerman lecture

David Campbell Bannerman MEP will be giving the 13th Annual Ipswich Conservative Policy Forum Lecture at the Central Conservative Club in the Town Center. It will be on Friday 25 November at 19:00 for 19:30.

Tickets are £10, and to get them either on 01473-691347 or by emailing stephenmlark@talktalk.net. You will need to do this by Friday 18 November.

Reminder: Maidenhall Sports Centre Charity bash TOMORROW

The Pink Aerobics and Pink Zumba will be held at the Maidenhall Sports Centre on 29 October in aid of Breast Cancer Care. The suggested donation is £5 a class and there will also be a raffle.

Ben Gummer at the Station Hotel Tomorrow

Ben Gummer will be at the Station Hotel tomorrow (Friday) from 7pm to 9pm. If you’re commuting on the day it’s just across the road from Ipswich Station. I know it’s not in Bridge but it’s in walking distance from most of Bridge and so if you want to bend his ear, now’s the time to do it.
