Another noise complaint, this time from the Hayes and sounding more like the cement ship

Hi,

I am wondering whether the Noise Action Group is still in existence.

After a long peaceful period I am once again being kept awake by that old droning hum coming, I assume, from the cement works.

This was throughout Saturday night.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I picking up something else?

Any information that you have would be very helpful.

Has anyone heard anything like this?

I got this email this morning from a resident of Wherstead Road.

Hi James,

The high pitch noise started at 12am last night and its know 6.36 and appears to be getting louder. It’s starting to drive me nuts. What exactly is making the noise a siren or a piece of machinery?

Cement Ship Noise: Is it getting bad today?

Thought I would let you know that the cement noise situation is really bad today. A high pitch noise that is driving us mad. Have to have the windows open as it is so hot so that doesn’t help, although we should be able to have them open.

Dust problems near Ipswich Port

In Belstead Avenue we’ve been getting a dust issue, our car was washed and within days a fine layer of light grey-brown dust overlay the car. When I was leafleting in Chatsworth Crescent I was accosted by someone who had a similar issue, suddenly what seemed to be a very local problem looks like it could be quite widespread.

Could this be cement dust? It doesn’t look (purely) like pollen.

The Cement Ship’s being noisy

I saw a Spanish IP pop up on my visitors log among all the Union Jacks, so I knew that the Southern Cement was likely to be unloading today.

Usually it’s been quiet, but there has been a complaint along Wherstead Road. Hopefully it’s not going to travel and it won’t hbe around tonight.

Here’s hoping – I’m not keen on doing more leaflets. (For the record it’s been great so far.)

How’s the Port Noise doing?

Although there are still complaints from Wherstead Road, I’ve not really heard anything about the boat outside there, and even in Wherstead Road the complaints are less strident. Please let me know if you are suffering in silence as the assumption is forming among many of the councillors that there is less of an issue. Autumn is the high point of complaints historically, so there may be worse to come, although as a believer that the cement ship noise is largely wind and atmosphere dependent I think that this is a lagging indicator and that the worse noise is usually about now, high Summer. Is the silencer actually working?

In related news I hear that Southern Cement, despite applying to build their silo, have not actually been able to find the money to do so. Of course if they actually engaged with the community these rumours would be easily quashed. Shows that no matter how expensive the corporate lawyers are, sometimes their advice can be unmitigated rubbish.

Cement Ship is quiet

I’ve heard reports that the cement ship is back, but this time very, very quiet.

I hope that this is true, and that the weekend was an aberration.

I am still getting complaints about the weekend, including one from a councillor.

If the cement company could only talk to us then things would be far better.
