Where’s Chris Mole?

So Stephen Byers admits to trying to influence the Transport Ministers on behalf of National Express and their rail operations. However Chris Mole is not mentioned once, despite being the minister in charge of Railways.

What explains the absence?

Why would he go to Chris Mole?

    1. They know each other from when Chris Mole was Labour leader of Suffolk County Council and Steve Byers was environment secretary.
    2. Chris Mole deals with the trains
    3. They are both in the House of Commons
    4. Chris Mole has a constituency interest in National Express franchises, there's little chance that Adonis would bypass him on this operator
    5. Chris Mole is a Brownite to the Blairite Adonis, there's no way that a recently moved Adonis would seek such a rift so soon

If Chris Mole has been bypassed on this then he's merely decoration for an unelected (and incredibly unpopular with No 10) Secretary of State. I can't see him being slapped around like that.

Nothing from Paul Geator and Ipswich Spy on this. Probably a dog barking at a Labour canvasser in a pub to report on.

tut, tut, having a go at Spy and Geater- still waiting for you to put something on your site about Cllr Wells and his attck on the Lib Dems and his fellow Tories!

"Michael Foot" would you mind using your real name? The small number of people who follow the Ipswich political blogs can work out who you are from your writing style.

Personally I have a lot of admiration for Steve Wells and the stand he took. He clearly represented his constituents. I've already been told by a Tory councillor that he doesn't envy whoever will be my whip. I don't think any of the three current Labour councillors can have that said of them.

However the Northern Fringe has nothing to do with this blog which is about Bridge Ward. I've also only met Steve Wells once (and then in passing).

So why was the Ipswich Labour Party neutral on this question? Why are the Ipswich Labour Party not putting out a shadow budget? Not exactly ready to take over the council, are you comrade?
  • Ha! From the Telegraph:

"Lobbying row: Lord Adonis admits he had private discussion with Stephen Byers
Cabinet Minister Lord Adonis has admitted that he had a private conversation with Stephen Byers over a controversial deal to renationalise the East Coast railway line."

    Poor old Chris, bypassed again!
  • Why would the execrable Byers go to the monkey if he could go straight to the organ-grinder?

I've always said that Ipswich would elect a monkey if it had a red rosette on it, and it appears I may have been right...
