And now a star turn from our very own (or Hollywell’s very own, if we were to be precise) Councillor Philip Smart.
Confronted at the station by a bewildering number of Tory activists with leaflets and tee-shirts with “Win With Ben in 2010″ he started to twitch. Rising to his full 5′ 5” frame he bellowed out “If Lord Ashcroft paid his taxes we could afford some nice new trains not new tee shirts like this”. Not exactly gracious under pressure.
Sadly for us the tee shirts actually cost £5.
Obviously Councillor Paul West, who this diatribe was aimed at, was too polite to point out that if the Labour non dom Lord Paul had not robbed the Caparo pension fund then their pensioners would be able to afford a comfortable retirement rather than put out Labour leaflets all around Ipswich.
But then robbing pension schemes and selling our future is what Councillor Smart’s party specialise in.
